Our classes may begin and finish together, but much of the class is divided into smaller groups according to age and experience. We normally have several instructors working with students, allowing beginners to receive more individualized attention.

For younger children, our Little Dragons program introduces children ages approximately 3½–4 to martial arts in an age-appropriate environment.
Classes help young children begin developing listening skills, coordination, confidence and the ability to follow directions while having fun learning martial arts.

More Than Kicks and Punches
One of the biggest differences in our children's program is that we don't believe martial arts should be limited to physical techniques.
We want children to become more confident in the way they stand, communicate and interact with other people.
Students are encouraged to make eye contact, answer questions clearly and use a strong, confident voice.

My Personal Connection to Saddle River, NJ
I've had the privilege of teaching martial arts in Bergen County for more than 30 years, and Saddle River and the surrounding communities have always felt like home.
I grew up in neighboring Upper Saddle River, where I attended Reynolds, Bogert and Cavallini schools before graduating from Northern Highlands Regional High School. Today, I own Stevens Martial Arts in nearby Ramsey, where I've had the opportunity to teach many children and families from Saddle River.
My connection to the area extends beyond martial arts. My home in neighboring Ho-Ho-Kus was designed by Eleanore Pettersen, a pioneering New Jersey architect whose architectural practice was based in Saddle River for decades. Pettersen studied and worked with legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin before establishing her own successful career in Bergen County. One of her best-known local projects was the Saddle River residence that later became the home of President Richard Nixon and First Lady Pat Nixon.
Living in a Pettersen-designed home has given me an additional appreciation for the history and character of Saddle River and northern Bergen County.
For me, serving Saddle River families isn't simply about being a nearby martial arts school. This is the community where I grew up, where I've spent decades teaching, and where I'm raising my own family. At Stevens Martial Arts, I'm proud to continue helping local children develop confidence, discipline, respect, leadership and practical self-defense skills.
